Brazilian Butt Lift (BBL)
Beauty by Future Standards
What is a Brazilian butt lift?
QUICK FACTS
Procedure: Liposuction followed by fat transfer to the buttocks.
Surgery time: 2 to 4 hours.
Anesthesia: Discussed and selected during your consultation.
Donor areas: Abdomen, flanks, thighs, back and arms, depending on fat distribution.
Return to work: About 3 to 4 weeks.
Full activity: About 6 to 8 weeks.
Final shape: Usually visible within 3 to 6 months after surgery.
Cost: AED 36,000 to AED 40,000 for surgical BBL.
What a BBL can and cannot do
A BBL can:
- Add fullness to flat or under-projected buttocks.
- Slim the areas where fat is removed.
- Improve the balance between your waist, hips and thighs.
- Use your own tissue so you need no implant.
A BBL cannot tighten loose skin or change your bone structure. It cannot guarantee a specific size. Your body reabsorbs part of the transferred fat during healing.
Is a Brazilian butt lift safe?
A BBL carries more risk than most cosmetic procedures. You should hear that before you book. The main danger is fat embolism. It happens when injected fat enters a large vein and travels to the lungs. Surgical societies linked this risk to fat placed in or under the gluteal muscle. Their safety advisory tells surgeons to inject fat only into the layer above the muscle. It also asks for rigid cannulas and for injecting only while the cannula moves. Some surgeons use ultrasound to confirm the injection plane.
The American Society of Plastic Surgeons has cited survey data that suggest about 1 death in 15,000 procedures after surgeons adopted these changes. An earlier surgeon survey estimated about 1 in 3,448. Other risks include infection, bleeding, blood clots, uneven results, fluid collections, hardened fat lumps (fat necrosis) and loss of volume.
Ask every surgeon you consult how they place the fat and how they confirm the injection plane. Dr. Sohrab answers these questions and explains each risk at your consultation. After surgery call the clinic or emergency services (998 in the UAE) at once if you have chest pain or sudden breathlessness. Do the same for swelling in one calf.
Who is a good candidate for a BBL?
You may suit a BBL if you:
- Have enough fat to harvest. Very slim patients may not.
- Keep a stable weight.
- Do not smoke or will stop before surgery. Smoking reduces blood supply and fat survival.
- Have good general health and reasonable skin elasticity.
- Hold realistic goals and can follow the aftercare rules.
Loose skin needs a different plan. Dr. Sohrab may suggest a tummy tuck or a body lift instead. He may also suggest J-Plasma skin tightening alongside your BBL.
Who should not have a BBL
Dr. Sohrab will advise against a BBL if you are pregnant or have a serious heart, lung or clotting condition. He will also advise against it if you cannot follow the rules on sitting and pressure after surgery. He makes the final decision after your assessment.
Types of Brazilian butt lift in Dubai
Traditional BBL
Dr. Sohrab harvests fat from the abdomen, flanks or thighs. He injects it into the buttocks in thin layers. This is the standard technique and gives the most volume.
Hip dip BBL
This version fills the dents at the sides of the hips. It improves the line from waist to thigh. Dr. Sohrab can combine it with a traditional BBL.
Mini BBL
A mini BBL moves a smaller volume of fat for a subtle change. It still involves liposuction and anesthesia.
Athletic BBL
This approach aims for a firmer and more lifted shape instead of maximum fullness. It suits patients who prefer a toned look.
Revision BBL
A revision corrects shape or asymmetry after earlier surgery. Dr. Sohrab reviews your previous results and the fat available before he plans it.
BBL for higher BMI
Dr. Sohrab assesses each patient with a higher BMI individually. He reviews your health and body composition before he recommends a plan.
Non-surgical butt lift
A non-surgical butt lift uses injectables or device treatments. It does not use your own fat. The change is smaller than fat transfer. Read more on our Brazilian butt augmentation page.
Combining a BBL with other body procedures
Some patients combine body contouring procedures in a Mommy Makeover. Dr. Sohrab reviews whether combining procedures is safe for you. Browse all body procedures.
What are the areas involved in a Brazilian Butt Lift?
Stage | What to expect |
|---|---|
First days | Rest and avoid pressure on the buttocks. Swelling and bruising peak around days 3 to 5. |
Weeks 1 to 2 | Swelling and soreness ease. Wear the compression garment as directed. |
Weeks 3 to 4 | Most patients return to work. |
Weeks 6 to 8 | Most swelling has settled. Return to exercise only after Dr. Sohrab clears you. |
Months 3 to 6 | Your final shape appears as swelling resolves and the surviving fat stabilizes. |
Aftercare rules
- Wear your compression garment exactly as directed.
- Do not sit directly on your buttocks for the period Dr. Sohrab sets. Pressure can reduce fat survival.
- Skip weight training and hard exercise until he clears you.
- Do not smoke.
- Keep your weight stable.
- Attend every follow-up visit.

How long do BBL results last?
Fat that survives the transfer stays in place as living tissue. Not all of it survives. Your body reabsorbs part of it during the first months. Studies report a wide range so Dr. Sohrab cannot promise a percentage. Weight gain or loss changes the result. Ageing also changes your shape over time. Judge your result at 3 to 6 months and not in the first weeks.
