That fullness under your jaw comes from one of four things, and plenty of people have two or three at once.

• Fat under the platysma muscle; the usual reason, and chin liposuction deals with it well.
• Loose muscle bands; the platysma separates with age, which drops the neck even when there is nothing to suck out.
• A chin sitting too far back; a short jaw creates a double chin on someone with hardly any fat there.
• Loose skin; comes with weight loss and with age, and no fat removal tightens it.

So the assessment matters more than the treatment. Pick the wrong one and you have spent your money on the wrong problem.

Double chin removal Surgery: What It Does Well

Chin liposuction suits patients under roughly 50 whose skin still springs back and whose fullness comes from fat. Dr. Sohrab makes two or three tiny openings, one under the chin and one behind each ear, then removes the fat with fine cannulas through them.

Skin quality decides the result more than anything else. Young skin shrinks down neatly over the new contour. Skin that has lost its elasticity may simply drape over the smaller volume, which looks worse than before. When Double Chin Reduction Needs Muscle Work Too

Sometimes the fat comes out and the neck still looks slack, because the platysma muscle underneath has separated into two loose bands. Those bands show up as vertical cords when you clench your jaw.

The fix is a platysmaplasty, where Dr. Sohrab stitches the muscle edges back together through the same small incision under the chin. It adds maybe half an hour and produces the sharp angle that liposuction alone cannot deliver on that kind of neck. If loose skin sits on top of all this, a proper neck lift becomes the honest recommendation instead.

Double Chin Treatment When the Real Problem Is Your Jaw

Some patients arrive convinced they have a double chin and turn out to have a short chin instead. Their neck skin is fine. The jaw simply does not project far enough forward to create an angle, so everything below it reads as fullness.

Removing fat there achieves very little. What works is chin augmentation surgery, either an implant or a bone advancement, which pushes the jawline forward and creates the angle that was missing. Quite often Dr. Sohrab combines a small implant with light liposuction in one session, and the difference in profile surprises people.

Is Double Chin removal Surgery Right for You?

Dr. Sohrab looks for most of the following before recommending surgery:

• Fat that will not budge; you are near your target weight and the chin has stayed the same.
• Decent skin tone; pinch the skin under your chin and it springs back quickly.
• A stable weight; gaining ten kilos afterwards will undo the work.
• Good general health; with no uncontrolled blood pressure or clotting disorder.
• A week you can spare; most patients want seven to ten days before facing a camera.
• Sensible expectations; the neck improves sharply, though it will not match a 20 year old neck.
• Non smoker; or willing to stop four weeks either side of the operation.
